| A
well-behaved pet is a pleasure to live with. Pets of all ages and species
may exhibit behaviors that concern us. Some of these behaviors are normal
but undesirable. Other behaviors may be dangerous, either to people, to
other animals, or to the pet that is exhibiting the behavior. With the
application of appropriate treatment techniques, many behavior problems
can be controlled.
The science of behavioral medicine for animals has been progressing rapidly.
The American
College of Veterinary Behaviorists (http://www.dacvb.org)
recognizes and certifies those veterinarians who have completed advanced
education and training in the field of veterinary behavior. Your family
veterinarian will determine whether your pet would be best served by meeting
with a specialist.
